RETURN TO CAMPUS

WELCOME BACK TO CAMPUS

In an email message sent this morning, President Joy Johnson welcomed faculty and staff back with words of encouragement and gratitude.

"What gives me confidence is what we have overcome together. Over the past 20 months, we have collaborated and challenged one another to find creative ways to move forward... Thank you for all you have done and for all that you give to our university."

VACCINATIONS AVAILABLE ON SFU CAMPUSES

This week's COVID-19 vaccine pop-up clinics at SFU will be held on the Burnaby campus on Wednesday, September 8 and Thursday, September 9.

The clinics are open to anyone aged 12+ who needs a first or second dose. No appointments are necessary, just walk in and staff will be happy to help. See the full schedule of pop-up vaccine clinics on all SFU campuses this month.

INVITE A FRIEND TO COFFEE

It’s been a while since we’ve seen each other, and now is the perfect time to reconnect. We’ve teamed up with Renaissance Coffee, Starbucks, Blenz and Nemesis to distribute 3,000 coffee vouchers across all campuses.

At Surrey and Vancouver campuses, get yours through campus administration. If you’re in Burnaby, you can get yours from September 8-10 in the Strand Hall foyer (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.) or at the Recreation Office in the Lorne Davies Complex (10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.)

PARKING ON CAMPUS

SFU Parking & Sustainable Mobility Services have announced a new, more user-friendly parking system with options for the fall 2021 term.

This includes a 10-day FlexPass parking option for commuters visiting Burnaby campus two to three times per week, but do not wish to purchase a monthly or term permit. Hourly and daily parking can also be purchased digitally via the Honk Contactless Parking system. Learn more about the new parking options.

SINGLE-USE PLASTIC BOTTLES ELIMINATED AT SFU

In 2021, SFU eliminated plastic beverage bottles from campus dining and vending locations. It's estimated that this bold action will save at least 260,000 plastic bottles each year.

In preparation for this move, SFU recognized a need to increase the accessibility of water refill stations. Learn more about the new stations and how SFU community members are collaborating to take a stand against plastic pollution.

SFU DANCE STUDENTS REUNITE AFTER 17 MONTHS APART

To support students through the pandemic, SFU Contemporary Arts dance instructor Linda Arkelian set up a free virtual dance class to help strengthen students' physical and mental well-being and foster unity among them.

In anticipation of dancing with each other again, all of Arkelian's students received the COVID-19 vaccine over the summer. To celebrate her students’ fully-vaccinated status, Arkelian hosted an in-person “celebration pop-up class.”
