2020 Community Engagement Award Winner Announced

Congratulations to Am Johal, Director of the SFU VanCity Office of Community Engagement. This award is presented annually to an SFU staff or faculty member who has dedicated a lifetime of work to exemplary community engagement. For more than 10 years, Am has quietly and consistently built deep, reciprocal relationships between SFU and the community in Vancouver’s urban core.

Upcoming Wikipedia edit-a-thon aims to fight gender bias

Kim Scott, coordinator for the Women Entrepeneurship Knowledge Hub B.C. is hosting a drive this weekend to increase the presence of women on Wikipedia. Currently, less than 20 per cent of English biographies are about women and less than 10 per cent of contributors identify as a woman.

City of Burnaby Partners with SFU Centre for Dialogue to Reactivate Housing Policy Project

Work is underway to reconvene with Burnaby residents as well as community representatives and council members to answer the question: How is the city doing so far? The intiative, originally launched in 2019, focuses on the needs of the Burnaby people rather than housing forms or building types.

Four SFU entrepreneurs named Globe & Mail's Report on Business Changemakers

SFU congratulates Benjamin Britton, Rochelle Prasad, Gurmesh Sidhu and Christina Wong on being named Globe & Mail's Report on Business changemakers. The new annual list celebrates 50 emerging leaders from Canada who are changing business based on their ideas, accomplishments and impact.

Join Lieke ten Brummelhuis, of the Beedie School of Business, as she explains how stress develops on a regular work day and how stress levels can be brought back to their baseline to prevent health and productivity issues. She will also discuss what happens if stress becomes ongoing, unveiling the key role of recovery after work to stay happy and productive.
