RETURN TO CAMPUS

MASKS REQUIRED ON ALL SFU CAMPUSES & VACCINE CARD REQUIRED FOR SPECIFIED ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS

On guidance from Dr. Bonnie Henry and the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training and in light of rising COVID-19 cases as a result of the Delta variant, non-medical masks must be worn in all indoor common areas and learning spaces on our campuses starting tomorrow, August 25. SFU will also use the BC Vaccine Card for specified activities and events, starting September 13.

SFU TEAM BRINGS INTERSECTIONAL, ANTI-RACIST APPROACH TO ONLINE COURSE

In its first five years, Work Integrated Learning's Effective Intercultural Communication course has been completed by nearly 1,000 students and adopted by more than 15 post-secondary institutions. Learn how the WIL Equity, Diversity and Inclusion team is making a difference at SFU and beyond.

 

PRESIDENT'S FACULTY LECTURES HIGHLIGHT EQUITY AND JUSTICE RESEARCH

The President’s Faculty Lectures return in September to shine a light on research excellence at SFU. These free public lectures celebrate cutting-edge research and those who engage with communities and mobilize knowledge to make real-world impacts.

“I invite anyone who is interested in the latest, most socially-important research coming out of SFU to tune in - hear how this research is helping to build toward a better world,” says SFU president Joy Johnson.

 

MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR THIS YEAR'S SFU TERRY FOX EVENT

Get involved and gather your colleagues, friends or family to walk, ride, wheel or run anytime from September 20-24. Support Terry’s Marathon of Hope and plan your own small event using one of the campus route maps or get active in your home community. Share your participation on social media using #SFUTerryFox. Please also consider donating in support of cancer research.

 

RESOURCES + OPERATIONAL UPDATES

FINANCIAL INFORMATION SYSTEM UPDATE

Work is underway to upgrade SFU's Financial Information System (FINS). It will result in a more streamlined, user-friendly homepage and changes to the database platform. An outage for the FINS system is expected to take place from 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 27 to 8:00 a.m. on Monday, August 30.

TransLink is boosting services across Metro Vancouver to support B.C.'s restart plan. Starting September 6, the 143 (SFU/Burquitlam Station) will be running again, while the 145 (SFU/Production-Way) will have increased frequency. Learn more about the added services.

TEACHING AND LEARNING FROM A DECOLONIAL STANCE

Having frank and open discussions is not easy, but it is necessary to tackle issues around discrimination and social justice from a decolonial perspective.

You are invited to join an online workshop designed to continue the conversation on systemic racism, anti-Indigenous racism, anti-Black racism and decolonizing education tools. The aim is to develop strategies on how to engage our students in decolonizing pedagogies using Indigenous ways of knowing.
