CREATING DEMENTIA-INCLUSIVE COMMUNITIES

A team of researchers at SFU and UBC are collaborating on a knowledge mobilization project to provide educational resources, training and guidelines for municipalities. Their goal is to improve the quality of life for people living with dementia.

 

HOW DOES AGE AFFECT IMMUNITY?

Older people are more at risk of severe illness from COVID-19, but for other diseases children may be more vulnerable. Why do immune responses vary depending on age? SFU mathematics professor Ben Ashby uses models and simulations to study the evolution of infectious diseases and how their hosts evolve to combat them.

 

SAVING LIVES WITH FAIRER POLICIES

Faculty of Education Assistant Professor Inna Stepaniuk shares her insights on the challenges and treatment of underrepresented and disadvantaged people living during times of crisis. When equity-deserving people navigate through war, heatwaves and wildfires, appropriate resources are limited and demand is high. Equity-based policy making acknowledges the experiences, needs and strengths of these groups and to develop systems to appropriately respond is essential.
