TSLEIL-WAUTUTH NATION AND SFU SIGN AGREEMENT TO ADVANCE RECONCILIATION |
Representatives from səlilwətaɬ (the Tsleil-Waututh Nation) celebrated the signing of a Relationship Protocol Agreement with SFU at a ceremony held at the Burnaby campus on September 6. The agreement marks a formal commitment from both parties to work together, strengthen their relationship and advance reconciliation. The Tsleil-Waututh Nation will provide guidance to support the university's ongoing decolonizing and Indigenizing work. |

RESEARCHERS HEAD TO TEXAS TO STUDY ASTRONAUT CARDIOVASCULAR HEALTH IN SPACE |
Members from Andrew Blaber’s Aerospace Physiology Lab are connecting with astronauts who are participating in a CARDIOBREATH study. The study examines how the cardiovascular and respiratory systems of astronauts adapt to the weightlessness their bodies experience while in space. As part of the study these astronauts wore a Bio-Monitor shirt while in space, that collected data on blood pressure, breathing, heart rate and functioning of the heart muscle through electrocardiogram monitoring. |

To strengthen Indigenous staff recruitment and retention, the B.C. Human Rights Commissioner approved SFU’s application to legally post and hire 15 Indigenous staff. This initiative supports recommendations from the 2017 Walk this Path With Us report. SFU’s application process for an additional targeted hiring of Indigenous faculty is underway. |
