ADDRESSING A 40-YEAR SALMON DECLINE WITH INDIGENOUS KNOWLEDGE AND GENOMICS

A new project funded by Genome BC involves researchers from the Tsleil-Waututh Nation, SFU’s Department of Archaeology and UBC’s Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries. This research's results can be used to guide conservation actions to protect and revive Pacific salmon stocks for future generations.

 

TENNIS ANYONE? DEVELOPING MOTION SIMULATION TECHNOLOGY'S NEXT GENERATION

SFU Computing science Assistant Professor Jason Peng’s research team takes motion simulation technology to the next level and uses tennis to showcase just how real virtual athletes’ moves can be. Peng’s team recently presented its system and corresponding research paper at a global conference for computer graphics and interactive techniques in California.

EXCELLENCE IN BOOK DESIGN AWARD WINNERS ON DISPLAY

The Alcuin Society, which sponsors the oldest competition recognizing fine book design in the country, held its 40th national book design competition earlier this year in Vancouver. A selection of winning titles is on display at the entrance to Special Collections and Rare Books on the Bennett Library’s seventh floor.

This workshop is an internationally recognized forum for faculty members, staff and graduate students in instructional roles who wish to strengthen their teaching skills. Novice to expert instructors can participate in intensive yet practical exercises in learning-centred teaching.
