“I am passionate about science, but I always wanted to work in social justice,” says Simran Basra (BSc, 2023) of her decision to pursue a major in Biological Sciences and an extended minor in Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies. After graduation, she plans to pursue scientific research from a feminist, anti-colonial perspective. As a gay Punjabi woman, Basra’s time here at SFU allowed her to learn about herself and find community. |

Although Seamus Long was doing important work on major Metro Vancouver water infrastructure projects, he felt like something was missing. Long took engineering courses at BCIT, economics courses at Douglas College and he decided to take a leap. He quit his engineering job and started as a full time student at SFU in the economics honour program at SFU in September 2022. Long will now pursue graduate studies at UBC. |
