BIRS, Banff Centre, Banff, AB

The Banff International Research Station hosted the "First Nations Math Education" workshop from November 22nd to November 27th, 2012.

A group of Elders, mathematicians, math educators and teachers came together to find ways to improve mathematics education among Aboriginal learners while at the same time acknowledging the importance of traditional culture.

The main goal of the workshop was to create resources that were sound, interesting and challenging mathematically, with a factual and rich cultural context and to provide these resources to various venues of instruction in order to supply a more balanced curriculum where aboriginal culture can take its rightful place.

At this workshop, Veselin Jungic represented the Math Outreach Program. Veselin presented on the first day of the workshop.
