Hassan Murad, an alumnus of the School of Mechatronic Systems Engineering, has been named by Forbes as one of five entrepreneurs on the rise in artificial intelligence. Murad and his company, Intuitive Inc., have developed an AI-powered system for sorting waste and recycling at large commercial centres, airports, and universities. The waste-sorting system originally began as a class project at SFU, and developed into a company that is now a Venture Labs client.

The sorting technology could help reduce contamination of recycling loads while also providing important data to companies about buyer habits.
