The Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research (MSFHR) awarded engineering science professor Marinko Sarunic and mechatronic systems engineering professor Siamak Arzanpour Innovation to Commercialization awards this month. The funding will support the researchers’ innovations that benefit patients with reduced mobility or that are at risk of developing eye diseases.

Sarunic will investigate new diagnostic technologies for age-related macular degeneration using a new device that uses sensor-less adaptive optics combined with optical coherence tomography.

Arzanpour will further develop the prototype of a wearable robotic exoskeleton that supports individuals with lower-limb disabilities, such as spinal cord injury, to perform normal and complex movements, including walking again.
