Fire Procedures
Vancouver Campus
If you discover a fire (all Vancouver campus buildings)
- Activate the red alarm pull station immediately.
- Call the Fire Department at 911 and inform them of a fire condition at the Simon Fraser University complex in Vancouver:
- Harbour Centre: 515 West Hastings Street
- Wosk Centre for Dialogue: 580 West Hastings at Seymour
- Segal Graduate School of Business: 640 West Pender Street at Granville
- Notify the occupants in your area. If safe to do so, call Security at 25252.
- Vacate the floor as soon as everyone is notified of the fire condition.
- Report to the Evacuation Control Officer and inform them of any details concerning the fire. They are stationed for:
- Harbour Centre in front of the parking lot at 555 West Cordova
- Wosk Centre for Dialogue: on Hastings Street in front of the Delta Vancouver Suites Hotel
- Segal Graduate School of Business: on Granville in front of Moore's
Alarms
At the sound of a fire alarm: Harbour Centre
Pre-Alarm (slow ring)
- Prepare to leave the building. Turn off computer, get coat, purse, etc.
- Follow the instructions of the floor wardens or the public address announcements.
General Alarm (fast ring)
- Proceed to the nearest safe exit.
- Walk. Do NOT run. Shut all doors behind you and proceed along corridors and stairways in a quiet and orderly manner. Do not push or jostle. If you encounter heavy smoke, keep low (crawl). Use the wall to guide you to the nearest exit. If smoke is heavily concentrated in the exit, do not attempt to leave by that means of exit. Proceed to an alternate exit. When you have reached the outside of the building, move away from the doorway to allow others behind you to emerge from the exit.
- Proceed to the assembly area in front of the parking lot at 555 West Cordova Street.
At the sound of a fire alarm: Applies to the Wosk Centre for Dialogue and the Segal Graduate School of Business
- Proceed immediately to the nearest safe exit as there will be no pre-alarm.
- Walk. Do NOT run. Shut all doors behind you and proceed along corridors and stairways in a quiet and orderly manner. Do not push or jostle. If you encounter heavy smoke, keep low (crawl). Use the wall to guide you to the nearest exit. If smoke is heavily concentrated in the exit, do not attempt to leave by that means of exit. Proceed to an alternate exit. When you reach the outside of the building, move away from the doorway to allow others behind you to emerge from the exit.
- Proceed to the assembly area:
- Centre for Dialogue: on Hastings Street in front of Delta Vancouver Suites Hotel
- Segal: on Granville in front of Moore's the Suit People
Do not go back into the building for any reason until the fire department has given permission to go.
