Description

CALENDAR DESCRIPTION:

Aims to further enhance learners’ advanced language skills in appreciating drama/movie works in Chinese. Through examining the vocabulary, structures and language use in Chinese fiction and film, learners will deepen their linguistic knowledge of literary texts and enrich their understanding of relevant social and cultural issues.

COURSE DETAILS:

This course is designed for students of advanced levels who wish to further improve their Chinese language and literacy skills. It aims to further enhance learners’ advanced language skills in appreciating drama/movie works in Chinese. Through examining the vocabulary, structures and language use in Chinese fiction and film, learners will deepen their linguistic knowledge of literary texts and enrich their understanding of relevant social and cultural issues.

PLEASE NOTE: This course is a blended course, which combines an two-hour online component with weekly two hour in-preson classes in the classroom. The online instruction component are supported by asynchronous activities and assignments on Canvas. Students are required to attend the scheduled classes on campus for synchronous activities.

PREREQUISITE
CHIN330 or CHIN390 or Equivalent. Departmental approval can be obtained through placement interviews.

Placement for Fall 2022 will be conducted virtually in July to Sept. Please contact jiaf@sfu.ca for placement details. You may be asked to complete a form and submit your unofficial High School Transcript, SFU Advising Transcript and SFU ID to complete the placement.

Course participants are expected to be able to read in simplified Chinese effectively before registering in this course. Students who have been formally educated in Chinese and have achieved low advanced level of proficiency in Mandarin Chinese are welcome to apply.
