Description

CALENDAR DESCRIPTION:

Introduces basics of text analysis through Python programming. Core concepts include: data capture and manipulation; data cleaning and preprocessing; database management; big data; natural language processing; introductory machine learning; text classification. Students with credit for SDA 250 may not take this course for further credit.

COURSE DETAILS:

The course will take place in person, in two two-hour blocks, one devoted mostly to lecture and explanation of concepts and the other to practice and lab work.  

Drop-in office hours will take place on Zoom.

  • Lab exercises 20%
  • Minute papers 10%
  • Assignments 30%
  • Take-home exams 40%

None. Reading materials and slides will be made available on Canvas. Most of the material will be drawn from open sources.
