Description

CALENDAR DESCRIPTION:

Building on research completed in CA 350, CA 450 is a course culminating in a public facing performance or event led by a faculty member or visiting artist. Integrates and implements the techniques acquired in studio courses. May repeat once for credit.

On Cringe

CA 450 is open to all students, across all areas, interested ininterested in developing an evening length performance from scratch.

Drawing on CA 350 Performance as Research I (S/25) this class will serve as continued research, development, and presentation of work around Cringe Aesthetics. What could the contemporary category of ‘cringe’ hold’? What’ are the potential functions of ‘cringe’ or ‘cringing’ as a vicarious emotional response and to what extant can we manufacture it?

COURSE-LEVEL EDUCATIONAL GOALS:

+ Develop and produce creative research on themes and practices of cringe and cringing. 

+ Conduct creative R&D and produce a faculty-led performance directed by Ryan Tacata.

  • Attendance & General Participation 20%
  • Weekly Outside Research Assignments 40%
  • Weekly & Public Performance Presentations 40%
