Description
CALENDAR DESCRIPTION:
An examination of critical issues, current research, and practices in mathematics education.
COURSE DETAILS:
This course is designed to introduce students to the tasks of designing, conducting, interpreting, and reporting research in mathematics education. No prior knowledge of research methods in education will be assumed. In addition to the calendar description of the course, students will become familiar with a number of issues related to the conduct of research, including computer-based library searches, the use of the Internet to access resources, the ethics review procedure, collecting and analysing data, and interpreting research findings. A major component of the work will consist of individual student projects. Students will negotiate with the instructor on an individual basis to undertake a project that will advance them toward degree completion in some way.
COURSE-LEVEL EDUCATIONAL GOALS:
Students are introduced to research ideas and thrends in mathematics education. Students gain experience in conducting a minor research project.

- Individual project 50%
- Literature based presentation 20%
- Weekly assignments 30%
