Description
CALENDAR DESCRIPTION:
Experience in incorporating computers in mathematical problem solving, adaptation of materials for use in mathematics classroom.
COURSE DETAILS:
Students will explore a wide range of technologies used in mathematics teaching and learning. Historical, philosophical, epistemological perspectives on these technologies will be discussed, as will political and aesthetic dimensions. Students will have the opportunity to engage in technology-rich mathematical experiences and also to undertake the design of a “duo of artefacts” that is appropriate for their own current teaching context.

COURSE-LEVEL EDUCATIONAL GOALS:
- To better appreciate the way that technologies have historically shaped mathematical concepts.
- To appreciate the political, material and curricular context that frames the use of technology in contemporary school mathematics
- To understand and assess the semiotic potential of different technologies
- To develop expertise in designing technology-rich experiences for mathematics learning.
