Description

CALENDAR DESCRIPTION:

Continues the approaches taken in CHIN 100 and CHIN 110 in order to improve listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Students will be able to exchange ideas and opinions in daily conversation, and to read short stories and articles. Understandings of Chinese values and customs will be developed in a cross-cultural perspective. Students enrolled/placed into other Chinese courses may not take this course for credit.

COURSE CONTENT 

Take your Mandarin skills to the next level with CHIN 200!

Building on the foundation established in CHIN 100 and CHIN 101, CHIN 200 further develops your listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities through a variety of engaging and interactive learning approaches. By the end of the course, you will be able to express ideas and opinions with greater confidence in everyday conversations, read short stories and authentic texts, and expand your literacy with approximately 250 new Chinese characters.

In addition to strengthening your language proficiency, you will develop practical skills for using Chinese in today's digital world, including word processing, blog writing, and navigating online Chinese-language resources. Through meaningful language and cultural exploration, you will gain a deeper understanding of Chinese values, customs, and perspectives while enhancing your ability to communicate across cultures.

Designed for flexibility and success, this blended course combines weekly asynchronous online learning modules and assignments with a 2-hour in-person tutorial each week. This format allows you to learn at your own pace while benefiting from regular face-to-face practice, interaction, and support.

Continue your Mandarin journey and discover new ways to connect, communicate, and engage with the Chinese-speaking world. Please note that tutorials begin in the first week of classes.

SFU CHIN 110 or Departmental permission.

 

Credits earned from CHIN200 may be applied towards the Chinese Certificate.
