Description

CALENDAR DESCRIPTION:

Students investigate aspects of sound design, exploring both traditional and expanded approaches. Discover how sound design works in different settings and styles, and experiment with various techniques. Students look at how sound design is used in various contemporary practices, alongside open-ended explorations of sound design as a medium unto itself. The third of three courses in the Sound cluster.

COURSE DETAILS:

A studio course in the theory and practice of Sound Design, both traditionally construed, and in the expanded field. The course will explore Sound Design as a creative process across a variety of traditions, mediums, and experimental practices. Sound Design in theatre, dance, film and various contemporary practices will be examined, alongside open-ended explorations of Sound Design as a medium unto itself.

  • Participation and Attendance 10%
  • Weekly Creative Assignments 40%
  • Listening, Reading and Viewing Responses 20%
  • Final Project 30%

NOTES:

Prerequisite: Experience with digital audio workstations (DAWs) and basic recording technology is required.
