Description

CALENDAR DESCRIPTION:

Students will explore and apply a range of creative producing strategies for film projects. They will develop proposals for funding, examine distribution and exhibition models, and identify ethical approaches for producing.

COURSE DETAILS:

Creative Producing is a comprehensive course aimed at equipping students with the practical, creative, and communicative skills needed to produce independent film projects. This course includes seminars, workshops, and hands-on assignments focused on project development, budgeting, ethical considerations, collaboration, and presentation skills. Students will complete assignments that simulate real-world tasks that will support you in all the stages of independent film producing.

Course Structure
Classes will include guest speakers, student presentations, proposal writing, and seminars.

COURSE-LEVEL EDUCATIONAL GOALS:

By the end of the course, students will be able to :

(1) Understand the various roles of an independent film producer.
(2) Develop and pitch a film project through marketing materials and public speaking.
(3) Understand and create budgets and financing strategies for independent film projects. 
(4) Apply ethical considerations to producing (rights management, fair representation, copyright, etc).
(5) Gain knowledge of domestic and international film financing structures.
(6) Practice completing public and/or private grant applications.
