  • Prerequisites:

    ECON 201 with a minimum grade of C-; 45 units. Students with a minimum grade of A- in ECON 103 and 105 at Simon Fraser University at their first attempt can complete ECON 305 concurrently with ECON 201 after 30 units. Students seeking permission to enroll on this basis must contact the undergraduate advisor in economics.

Description

CALENDAR DESCRIPTION:

Concepts and methods of analysis of macroeconomic variables -- consumption, investment, government and foreign trade. Classical and Keynesian models compared; analysis of economic statics and dynamics.

COURSE DETAILS:

This course covers the theory of income, employment and prices under static and dynamic conditions, including: national income accounting, growth theory, labour, consumption, and investment, monetary theory, business cycles, the effects of monetary and fiscal policies, and economic crises. There is some emphasis on open economy macroeconomics and international comparisons.

  • Problem sets 10%
  • Three exams 90%

REQUIRED READING:

Macroeconomics, by Charles I. Jones, 6th edition, WW Norton & Co. 

I will be using the 6th edition but earlier editions are (probably) fine.  Additional materials will be provided by the instructor.
