CALENDAR DESCRIPTION:

The study of Indigenous literatures in French and in translation has grown exponentially in the last decade. This graduate-level seminar will focus on selected themes (feminism, gender issues, reconciliation, pedagogy) and provide students with advanced theories and concepts.

COURSE DETAILS:


Ce cours sera consacré à l’examen des littératures autochtones contemporaines et populaires, notamment le roman policier, la bande-dessinée, la fiction spéculative et l’érotisme. Nous explorerons également comment les productions littéraires influencent la production cinématographique, l'animation et la réalité virtuelle. Jusqu’à présent, les théories conventionnelles des études culturelles ou de la culture populaire ne tiennent pas compte des spécificités historiques et politiques de ce type de productions. En nous appuyant sur des outils conceptuels issus de la théorie critique autour des productions littéraires et artistiques autochtones, nous considérerons les questions suivantes : Comment de telles interventions interrogent-elles les attentes et les conventions génériques ? Comment permettent-elles d’aller au-delà des écarts linguistiques et générationnels ? Comment les théories critiques littéraires et culturelles existantes pourraient-elles être appliquées et adaptées à ces nouveaux médias ?
