September 2021 Updates

As we return to our campuses this fall, Parking and Sustainable Mobility have implemented some new and updated initiatives to ease the transition back for students, staff and faculty.

Burnaby

Parking System Updates

We are proud to announce a new parking system at the Burnaby Campus, the HONK Contactless Parking System. By using HONK, we can transition our hourly and daily parking online and touch-free with no app download required to access services. The HONK Contactless Parking System will be replacing the previous Passport Parking Canada app.

Through this system, you will be able to purchase parking through our online portal by registering your licence plate instead of needing a physical permit displayed on your windshield. You will also be able to change your permit between different vehicles as needed with less hassle through your online account. You can also register your vehicle(s), and top up your parking from anywhere.

Along with our hourly, daily and term parking passes, we will also be adding new rate packages for people who only drive to campus occasionally – this new option is called FlexPass which allows you to buy ten days of parking and then use them at your convenience. For people who are only on campus an average of one or two days a week, the FlexPass is a less expensive option at $65 for 10 full days of parking than a monthly permit. A FlexPass can be redeemed on any day, for all day parking - expiring at midnight that day – and you have a full year to use up all 10 passes.

As for parking permits, those are now available to purchase through our website rather than in-person to avoid long lineups and waits. Students permits are available now as well as Staff and Faculty permits through our website here. The permits issued will be electronic and registered to your vehicle as we will no longer be issuing sticker permits.

Bike Cage

For our community member choosing a bike as their transportation method to and from campus, we now have a secure bike cage available for those who would like to use it. Please register by requesting an application form by emailing parking@sfu.ca, fill it out, and send it back. The Parking and Sustainable Mobility office will follow up to grant you secure access.

Campus Community Shuttle

The Campus Community Shuttle will be returning to service effective Sep. 1, 2021 and has funding approved through to March 31, 2022. Just as before, the shuttle is free for anybody to use and will from 8:30 am — 10 pm, Monday though Friday. As in other public transportation methods, masks will be required while riding the shuttle. We appreciate your feedback and continued input on this project, and welcome further input in once the shuttle returns to service.

Surrey

Along with the updates to parking at Burnaby, we are also announcing a partnership Central City Mall to be able to provide the P3 of the mall parkade to SFU permit holders only. This means however, if you have an SFU permit and park on other parkade floors, you may get a ticket.

For staff and faculty commuting from Surrey to the Burnaby campus, and who having purchased a Surrey parking permit, there are three (3) complimentary parking spaces now available to you on the lower level of Convocation Mall parking. If you are a staff or faculty member and anticipate needing these spaces in the upcoming terms, please notify the Parking & Sustainable Mobility office at parking@sfu.ca so they can put your plate on file.

If you are a student, you must be enrolled in classes at the Surrey campus to apply for the parking permit lottery which is now available.

If you’re a staff or faculty member, please fill out this form and return it to parking@sfu.ca to purchase a Surrey campus parking pass.
