Phonetics

Linguistics 220

Phonetics deals with the articulation of and the hearing of speech sounds. Properly speaking, articulatory phonetics and auditory (hearing) phonetics are a branch of physiology. Phonetics is an indispensible prerequisite to phonology. The study of the sound wave is a part of physics. Only articulatory phonetics is covered in L220.
