Draw by hand using a straight edge (ruler) for the tree diagrams, the phrase structure for the following phrases including spell-out. Be sure to include feature links and mark any features values that have been derived in red:
- the cup
- an ox.
- these six books
- that book
- a flower.
Find all the logical arguments in the above phrases.
- Example. "eight giraffes". Ans: 'giraffe' is the complement of 'eight'.
- Why are the following ungrammatical:
- *the an eaagle
- *book (as in '*John reads book'),
- Name the four conditions of government.
- Open up Grammar 2 Macintosh or DOS and generate the following phrases:
- the four foxes
- two cups
- some books
- those eleven chairs
- Why can you not generate "*the a book" given the principles that have been introduced so far?
