1. Draw a tree diagram showing the derivation of
- a) Syntax is likely to be interesting.
- b) John is anxious to learn syntax.
- Inidicate which predicate (adjective) is a control predicate and which one is a raising predicate.
- You may abbreviate NPs in both sentences; except do indicate and mark Case, since it is relevant to the exercise. Be sure to indicate agreement, filling NIL features. Be sure to include any links that may occur. Draw or indicate each step indicating which rule has been applied. Include subindices.
