Problem I:
In the following structure determine which nodes govern which nodes, and which nodes are linked to which nodes. Note: X governs a phrase and certain nodes that it dominates. A government link links heads to heads.
Where the node on the left of each sister relationship, and the node on the right is a phrase and a complement of the head.
Problem II:
Determine the A-structure and the surface structure for the following sentences. Sentences (1) and (2) may be short form, but number (3) must be the long form. Be sure to include the theta roles of all arguments:
(1). Mary has put a teapot on the counter.
(2). The dog is catching a mouse with his teeth.
(3). The student had been reading the two novels.
Problem III:
What principles or parametric rules have been violated in:

(5). *Molly is have writing a letters.
