Exercise 7:

• Open up the latest version of Grammar 5.

Generate the following verb (voice, aspect, relevance, and tense) phrases:

 

1. typed a letter
2. played chess
3. washed the two cars
4. perused no books
5. devoured no rice (This one is defective and shouldn't work)

These verbal forms and their arguments occur in the following sentences:

1. John typed a letter.
2. John and Mary played chess.
3. They washed the two cars.
4. We perused no books. (present tense)
5. They devoured no rice.

Note that the grammar will only generate the above phrases which are intermediate. It will not generate a complete sentence at this time.

In the following sentences include the indicative mood:

• Draw a tree diagram showing the derivation of
  • The boy bought a book.

• The cat was chasing the two mice.

• Some fleas were killed by the disinfectant.

• Be sure to include any links that may occur. Draw or indicate each step indicating which rule has been applied.
