Twin Coach 627
on W. Galer Ave. between 6th Ave. W and W. Queen Ave. heading
for #12 26th Ave. S. The coach is returning from #2 West Queen
Anne terminus. Photographer and date unknown but it must have
been taken in the 1970's when the #2 West Queen Anne was through-routed
with the #12. Submitted by Erik Griswold .
Twin Coach 624
on Pine St. crossing 5th Ave. westbound, heading for #10 Mt. Baker.
Behind the Twin Coach is the Frederick & Nelson Dept. store,
which is Nordstrom's flagship store. Photographer and date unknown,
submitted by Erik Griswold. Route 10 has been route 14 since 1978,
when the Twins and Pullmans were retired. The trolleys that survived
the disaster of of 1963 were renumbered and were again renumbered
after the minor disasters of 1965 and 1970. We can be certain
that these photos were taken between 1963 and 1978.
Twin Coach on Route 5 Phinney on 2nd Ave. Exention
S. at Yesler Way. The trolley is passing past rubble caused by
the 1949 6.0 earthquake in April of that year. It is heading toward
its terminus at S. Main St. Erik caught this on tape, then snapped
it into photoshop. The first image (this one) is the image as
he caught it from the VCR. Photo submitted by Erik, who does not
(for self-preservation reasons) have cable. Thus the tape was
made from an over-the-air reception, which is less-than-perfect,
KOMO-TV tape (from their files). Behind the trolley is the ground
level floor of the 86 year old 32-storied Smith Tower, once the
tallest building west of Chicago.
Twin Coach 933 heading for Ballard on Route 18
Ballard - 65th St. The photo is not dated, but it must have been
taken in 1946. Behind the trolley to the right is the now-extinct
Liberty theater--"It is a Wonderful Life" is playing
there, and 1946 is the year it was released. The Liberty Theater
is a first class theater and never showed reruns. Photo by Wally
Young.
