Wellington Ansaldo 131. Originally ordered by
Auckland, the Ansaldos went to Wellington. They did not work out
there, and were converted into diesel buses. Photo by Graeme Bennett.
Ex-Wellington 83 is seen here at Foxton Beach. At the Foxton trolley
Bus Museum (NZ). A weekly shoppers service was for a time run
from the town to the local beach using a trolley bus from
the museum towing a trailer on which was mounted a diesel bus
engine which drove a trolley bus motor which generated power to
drive the actual trolley bus which in turn could then tow the
trailer. Photo by Graeme Bennett.
Wellington overhead test trolley. It was a standard
English imported AEC Reliance MU2RAE, built by Metropolitan Cammell
Weyman, 1957 / 58. It had 40 seats, Nos. 272 to 338. This trolley
probably no longer exists. It started out as a standard diesel
bus with most seating removed. The trolley poles, hooks, and so
forth were fitted. It was provided with metering, voltmeters and
a work section with observation dome. It could be driven to, and
stationed at, any point on the system at any time to monitor the
line power supply and wiring around the system. This was the time
when Wellington was rehabilitating a lot of overhead to K&M.
Also the new generation chopper Volvos were going on line. Photo
