Summer 2019 Colloquium Series - 12 July

July 12, 2019

John Horty (University of Maryland) :: "Open texture and semantic constraint"
Friday, July 12 2019

Abstract: I will discuss some of the problems presented by open textured predicates for the semantics of natural language, as well as in legal theory. I will then (i) present an account of constraint in common law reasoning and (ii) suggest that this account can be adapted to help us understand open textured predicates as well.
