Silicon Quantum Technology - Lab Manager

Job Description

The lab manager will use their organizational skills to manage equipment and other lab resources to ensure research proceeds in a timely and efficient manner. A successful candidate will interact with a large team of students, post-docs, technicians, and outside users to make sure all users have access to the equipment they require. The lab manager will also work with the lab users to implement an inventory management system to streamline research and simplify procurement.

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills

Optional Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science
  • Web programming skills
  • Python language familiarity

Job Duties

  • Monitor inventory levels of consumables and utilization of standalone lab equipment to inform purchasing decisions
  • Implement an inventory management system to streamline research and simplify procurement
  • Communicate with and gather experimental requirements from researchers on an ongoing basis to inform purchasing decisions
  • Communicate with vendors to determine availability/lead time and inform purchasing decisions
  • Place orders directly with vendors or through SFU Procurement
  • Track status of orders and monitor shipping to ensure timely delivery
  • Arrange for return and repair of damaged or deficient equipment
  • Process received courier and vendor invoices and assign charges to the correct payment accounts and line items
  • Submit credit card purchase expense reports with charges assigned to the correct payment accounts and line items
  • Receive purchases and store them in inventory within the lab
