Candidates Executive Council 2015-2016

Candidates for the position of President

I would like to nominate myself, Emma Griffiths, for PDA President.

It has been an honour and a privilege to be the President of the SFU PDA this past year. We spearheaded a number of programs and initiatives and planned new events showcasing postdoc talent and achievements. We've helped to create a sense of community and in doing so, have created momentum for change. I am excited by how much we’ve grown in 12 short months and look forward to continuing this work in 2015-16. Please vote for me for President on Oct 2!

Thank you,
Emma

Candidates for the position of Vice-President – External Communications

Please accept my self-nomination for the position of Vice-President, External Communications.

Since joining SFU I have been involved as an active member in the PDA and helped organize research day, develop the PDA website and work on representing postdocs. In this capacity I have learned there are important opportunities and challenges for postdocs and the PDA ahead. I would like to put my experience and knowledge to work as an elected member of the PDA Executive Council, and specifically in the position of Vice-President, External Communications. I look forward to representing you so please do vote for me.

Thank you,

Candidates for the position of Vice-President – Operations and Finance

Being able to do independent research and to have a lot of freedom and responsibilities are one thing that makes academic life so enjoyable and different. Another is to have the possibility to actively engage with co-workers from an immense variety of both professional and personal backgrounds. In the 7 months I spent at SFU, I felt that the PDA does a great job at creating a sense of community and at providing information and help where needed. I would be happy to officially join the PDA team in their endeavor.

Candidates for the position of Vice-President – Internal Communications

I would like to nominate myself for Vice-President – Internal Communications.

I’m familiar with SFU, as I completed graduate studies here, but I’m excited about my new post-doc position, and I look forward to getting to know other PDA members professionally and socially. I believe I would do a great job as VP Internal Communications. My involvement in the environmental movement has given me lots of experience with recording and circulating minutes, as well as preparing call-outs and advertisements. Additionally, as a grad student, I organized bi-weekly lab meetings (usually followed by a pub social). Thus, I would be happy to take on a similar organizing role as a post-doc.
