Provost & VPA search community consultation
Professor Wade Parkhouse’s term as provost and vice-president academic pro tem ends on Aug. 31, 2023. In accordance with the procedures set out in policy GP29 Search Committees for vice-presidents and associate vice-presidents, a search committee has been established to select SFU’s next provost and vice-president academic.
Based on feedback from SFU: What’s Next?, the university is expanding the provost model in order to strengthen the SFU’s academic enterprise and provide strategic leadership on academic, financial and operational matters at the university.
Reporting to the president and working closely with deans, vice-presidents, and vice-provosts, the provost and vice-president academic will ensure that operational planning and budgeting is fully integrated across the university, aligns with the university’s academic and strategic mission, its institutional priorities, and is supported by the appropriate allocation of resources.
The search process is expected to continue through the spring of 2023. The Search Committee provided the SFU community with opportunities to contribute to the development of the position description and candidate profile, and will provide regular updates on the progress of the search throughout the process.
