Animation

The animation feature of the netWorks application provides visual feedback during path generation and also during a simulation. You can toggle animation on or off by selecting either the animate.gif (232 bytes)button on the command panel or the Animation check box in the netWorks control panel.

If animation is turned on during path generation, a small black square traverses the newly found path, and the associated arcs are highlighted in red as the square passes over them. When the square reaches the destination endpoint, the arcs revert back to their original color.

A similar process occurs when a path is seized during a simulation, although the arcs now remain highlighted until the path is released. Note that paths may share some arcs, so an arc returns to its original color only when all paths using it have released it. You can change the speed at which the square traverses the arcs with a slider control in the netWorks control panel.

Another feature of animation appears when an equipment model fails during a simulation. A red X appears over the picture of the equipment indicating that the unit is out-of-service. When the model returns to service, the red X disappears.
