Enterprise computing environments support an extensive array of users and resources. Enterprise directory platforms can help manage this information by providing a common repository for user, resource, and security data that can be administered in one place, using one interface. The emerging client-access standard for enterprises implementing such a directory strategy is the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP). Using this access protocol, applications can search, retrieve, add, delete, and modify objects in an enterprise directory from anywhere within the distributed environment.
