Network Considerations under Windows

The implementation of the SAS System is independent of the network. If a network vendor properly supports Windows clients, the SAS System should work on that network.

The SAS System under Windows has no specific networking version. SAS performs all file I/O processing through the Windows kernel operating system calls and does not directly access any specific LAN I/O functions.

When you execute the SAS System on a network, you install a single copy of the software on a server. Individual users on the network can run directly from the network. Alternatively, users on the network can copy the most frequently used products to their local disk and execute less frequently used products from the network.

If several users are simultaneously running the SAS System from a common directory on the network, each user needs a unique SASWORK directory. To ensure this, ensure that the WORK option in the SAS configuration file does not specify the USE suboption.

For more information about installing SAS for use on a network, see the installation instructions that accompany the installation media. For network performance information, see Network Performance Considerations.
