Hyperbaric Medical Emergency Simulation

Course Description:

The HMES course is an in-situ simulation team training program. It aims to help teams manage critical emergencies that may arise during oxygen therapy using both multiplace and monoplace chambers.

Simulation and interprofessional team training have been shown to reduce medical errors and improve patient outcomes. Realistic task trainers allow hands-on practice of critical procedures and learn how to actuate them in simulated scenarios in the hyperbaric chamber. The course outcome is physicians with improved proficiency in performing the procedures, resulting in reduced errors and increased safety.

This HMES course has been reviewed and approved as a UHMS. Qualified students will recieve 6.75-hours of AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.

Who should attend:

The HMES training is recommended for anyone who works in the field of hyperbarics. This includes doctors, nurses, RT's, operators, tenders, and administrative staff.

Topics covered:

  • Optimizing team dynamics and patient outcomes in a crisis
  • Simulation: Seizure and Hypoglycemia
  • Simulation: Agitated Patient
  • Simulation: Cardiac Arrest in Multiplace Chamber
  • Simulation: Tension Pneumothorax in Multiplace Chamber
  • Simulation: Fire in Hyperbaric Unit
