Inquiry into Action

Inquiry into Action is a five-week reading group for developing a greater understanding of student power and practicing the skill sets needed to be an effective advocate for student needs within the Faculty of Science.

This reading group will:

  • introduce you to relevant readings, videos, and podcasts on the topics of organizing and student power
  • provide a space for taking up space, honing your discussion and facilitation skills
  • connect you to like-minded peers across our many unions and help build Science unions’ collective capacity

Inquiry into Action will run during the Summer Term, Thursdays 10:30-11:50am, May 13 – June 10.

  • Session 1, May 13: Introductions and Theories of Change
  • Session 2, May 20: Radical Traditions
  • Session 3, May 27: Whose Science? Our Science!
  • Session 4, June 3: Refuge and Struggle in the University
  • Session 5, June 10: Student Power

How to join Inquiry into Action:

Interested Science union executives and members can sign-up here. Sign-up closes on April 25th. Soon after sign-up closes you will be invited to the reading group’s Canvas course.

Open to all, this reading group has limited capacity and will prioritize students commited to student organizing and governance as well as students who, because of systemic barriers and discriminations, are less likely to be welcomed in other spaces of skill and capacity development.

Interested but not available during the reading group weekly sessions?

Please contact Thomas Leischner ( as there is the possibility of running a second co-hort at a different time.
