Message List Options

Outlook for PC

Here you can learn the different ways in which you can view and organize your message list in the Outlook 2016 for PC desktop application.

Filtering the Message List

Filtering allows you to view your message list filtered by different conditions such as by Unread or Flagged messages.

1. Click the Filter Email drop-down menu in the ribbon.

2. Select how you would like to filter your messages from one of the options in the drop-down list.

3. Your mailbox will then be filtered based on the condition that you chose, only showing messages that fit that condition. For example, only showing messages that have attachments.

Sorting the Message List

Sorting the message list allows you to view your messages in a different way, such as by date, subject, or from.

1. Click the drop-down menu at the top of the message list that says By Date (this will change based on how your Inbox is currently being sorted).

2. A drop-down will appear providing you a list of options regarding how to sort your messages. Select one of these options, such as From.

3. Your mailbox will then be sorted alphabetically, by sender.

Message list view

There are two ways to view your message list: Message view and Conversation view. The default in SFU Mail is set to conversation view.

1. To change your message view, click the By drop-down menu at the top of your message list. There will be an item in the list that says Show as Conversations. By default, this will have a check mark beside it, indicating that you are in Conversation View.  To turn off conversation view, click Show as Conversations.

2. A pop-up window will appear asking whether you would like to turn off conversation view for just the folder you are currently in, or for all mailboxes. Select whichever option you prefer. Conversation view will then be turned off.
