Former Simon Fraser University student athlete Justin Kripps piloted his two-man Canadian bobsled to gold at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics on Monday, becoming SFU’s seventh Olympic gold medalist.

Kripps and brakeman Alexander Kopacz shared the gold medal with Germany after both teams produced a stunning tie, with an identical combined four-run time of three minutes, 16.86 seconds.

Kripps sat second after Sunday's first two heats, but jumped into first on his third trip down the track. Kripps was just off the German's pace early in the fourth run, but quickly picked up speed and briefly went ahead before falling off ever so slightly to cross the line deadlocked after the final run.
