About the Speaker:

Jefferson Alvarez — self-taught, Venezuelan-born chef, partner Cacao

Self-taught chef, Jefferson Alvarez left his home country of Venezuela at age 16 for Ottawa, where he attended Le Cordon Bleu Ottawa Culinary Institute. His wanderlust and ambition shortly took him to Toronto to work at Centro under illustrious chefs David Lee and Mark Thuet.

Determined and hard working, chef Alvarez decidedly absorbed as much knowledge around Toronto and had experiences at Pangea, Adega and Scaramouche, Canoe under famed chef Anthony Walsh, Aquavit and Morimoto. Alvarez took his first Executive Chef role at Tomi-kro.

Alvarez’s career in Vancouver hit a high point in 2009 when the Globe & Mail called the now closed Divino Wine Bar—where he was executive chef—the best wine bar in Canada. He then went on to lead kitchens at Fraîche in West Van, Secret Location in Gastown—where he created 300 unique dishes in 30 days—and now delivers the Latin American flavours of his youth in his own restaurant, CACAO Progressive Latin.

About Creative Mornings

In 2008, Tina Roth Eisenberg (Swissmiss) started CreativeMornings out of a desire for an ongoing, accessible event for New York’s creative community. The concept was simple: breakfast and a short talk one Friday morning a month. Every event would be free of charge and open to anyone.

Today, attendees gather in cities around the world to enjoy fresh coffee, friendly people, and an international array of breakfast foods. Volunteer hosts and their team members organize local chapters that not only celebrate a city’s creative talent, but also promote an open space to connect with like-minded individuals.

The growing archive of past breakfast talks is humbling. From design legends to hometown heroes, speakers are selected by each chapter based on a global theme. CreativeMornings remains free thanks to the support of local sponsors, generous venues, and longterm partners.

Anyone can attend. Register a profile at creativemornings.com to be alerted to the next Creative Mornings Vancouver event.

Admission

Registration for the ticket lottery for this event opens on July 21 at 11am.

Due to popularity causing tickets to sell out too quickly, CM Van uses a waitlist as a registration system (please register only once) from which they randomly award tickets using a lottery system. Anyone can attend.

If you cannot use your ticket, please inform Creative Mornings ASAP so they can allocate the ticket to individuals on waitlist. Remaining applicants will remain on the waitlist and be informed if a ticket becomes available. Anyone who hasn’t checked in by 8:45am on morning of the event forfeits their tickets. For more information see the Creative Mornings Vancouver website.
