To celebrate the official launch of the Social Data Analytics minor program, we sat down with our panel of SFU alumni who are industry professionals and academic researchers in the data analytics field. 

SPEAKERS

JORGE VASQUEZ

Jorge is the Practice Lead of the eCommerce Digital Intelligence Analyst team at Best Buy Canada. He specializes in deep-dive analysis using advanced analytics, provides strategic insights, and champions a data-driven culture within the department. Jorge graduated from SFU in 2013 with a joint major with honours in Economics and Finance.

VASUNDHARA GAUTAM

Vasundhara does linguistic analysis on speech data and writes code to improve the quality of speech recognition at Dialpad where she works as a Speech Recognition Engineer. She joined the company in 2019 after graduating from SFU with a joint major in linguistics and computing science.

VANNA LODDERS

Vanna is a research analyst working at a national market research and public opinion polling company in Vancouver. There, she relies heavily on knowledge she gained while completing her masters in Political Science at SFU in order to write surveys, model and visualize data, introduce semi-automated text coding approaches to the organization, and more. She works on a variety of projects related to public affairs, investment and financial markets, energy distribution, and others. Outside of work, Vanna has a particular interest in collecting political social media data and doing a plethora of fiber arts.

KATHLEEN CREEL

Kathleen (SFU PHIL MA '15) is a doctoral candidate in the Department of History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Pittsburgh. Her research focuses on ethical and epistemic issues in computer science and machine learning.
