REEL 57 COMMENTARY

1. Walking from outside to inside. Radio predominates the store ambience here, mostly interviewing, later moving away from radio.

3'00" bubbling fish tank, nice.

3'22" walking outside.

2. The sequence is notably quiet at first, then more active toward the end. Many questions about what the recordists are doing. From 4'15" on the microphones are surrounded by a flock of kids.

0'10" question about what recordists are doing.

0'45" more questions, recordists walking through the schoolyard, voices, traffic, some wind noise.

2'45" someone telling others to be quiet on account of the microphones.

3'20" approaching hissing noise.

3'40" child whispering, with strange reverberation.

4'00" child whispering.

4'15" moving inside school.

4'25" "who're you", multiple voice choir!

4'45" "ssh".

5'00" drinking from a fountain,

5'40" kids messing with microphones, lots of excited activity here.

3. Record player on, playing Beatle songs, lots of children's voices, all in very reverberant space. As a result sounds very chaotic. Walking outside at end.

4. Lots of kids, music and heavy reverberation.

1'00" kids zoom by microphones on skates and make a sound.

2'20" same.

5. Starts with good transition from outside to inside. Quiet ambience, people sounds, shuffling, footsteps, voices.

0'55" p.a. announcement.

1'35" p.a. announcement.

3'00" at newsstand, change twirls onto counter.

3'35" out to bus area through squeaky door.

4'20" idling busses, some distortion, lots of low frequencies.

5'30" question to recordist by some bus depot official. Back inside before end of take.

6. Several examples of Renault car horns, some distortion on the first few. All with traffic ambience in background. Not great.
