REEL 89 COMMENTARY

1. (See also reel 88, take 8.) Waiting for the 12:30 lunch whistle. The same throbbing motor sound is heard, a jet passes over, a car passes in front of the microphones.

3'00" people passing close by.

3'30" distant truck horn.

3'50" someone whistling, then sharp blast of the whistle.

2. Begins outside with birds and traffic, then walking inside.

3. Walking into observer's gallery of the pool. Lots of children swimming and making noise, in a very reverberant space, but clear.

2'40" healthy "kersplash" and spring board bounce, again at 4'10" and 4'25".

4'40" leaving the gallery, walking outside, small aircraft, traffic, birds, nice transition.

4. Opens by the changing rooms, the constant noise in the foreground is the outdoor shower on the beach. Several conversations are happening together, at wide spatial distances. Very dry absorbent acoustics, very subdued conversations, In fact, one is so subdued it sounds like radio patter until (2'55") the voice asks a question about the ocelot someone was parading on the beach.

1'04" small aircraft appears.

1'27" close-up footsteps.

1'36" radio passing.

1'57" small aircraft disappears.

2'55" the "radio"' turns into a person!

4'09" resolute footsteps close-up, followed by slow ones.

4'20" bike passing.
