"Emergency-response exercise rallies troops"

June 19, 2014

Statement from SFU Safety & Risk Services, Terry Waterhouse, Chief Safety Officer:

Simon Fraser University conducted an emergency training exercise today on all three campuses – Burnaby, Vancouver and Surrey -- in conjunction with the RCMP and other first responder partners.

Safety and security is a top priority at SFU and we are gratified to have been able to undertake this training exercise to test and improve our emergency response processes. The exercise was successful in deepening our learnings for emergency response and in strengthening our partnership with the RCMP—for the safety of all members of our campus communities.

SFU would like to thank the RCMP and other first responders for their expertise and support throughout the exercise. We also thank our campus communities for their cooperation, in particular the many volunteers who participated in the exercise.
