Programs run by the Traffic Safety department rely on active student participation in SFU's Student Campus Safety Program (SCSP). If you are interested in becoming involved, visit Campus Safety & Security Services Student Engagement Opportunities webpage for more information.
The Speed Watch program began at the SFU Burnaby Campus in the early 1990s and continues today. Performed by Student Campus Safety Program (SCSP) members, the Speed Watch program aids in encouraging motorists in complying with posted speed limits on campus.
Unless posted otherwise, speed limits on campus are 30 km/h on roads and 15 km/h in parking lots.
Student Campus Safety Program (SCSP) members and contract security personnel perform parking enforcement on campus to help ensure lots remain orderly, and regulations are understood. This includes:
- Issuing parking citations
- Providing parking information to visitors
- Impounding vehicles in violation of parking regulations
- Provide a physical presence in parking lots to aid in crime prevention and detection, and reporting of safety hazards.
SFU Parking Regulation policies can be found here.
