Actuarial Science Admission

Admission Instructions and Information

  • As stated in the Calendar under Admission Requirements, a student who has completed most of the lower division program requirements in MATH and STAT plus ACMA 210 with a grade of C+ or better may apply.
  • Achieving the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission to the Actuarial Science programs.
  • Students are expected to have a grade of C+ or better in MATH 152, STAT 270, and ACMA 210 and have a minimum CGPA of 3.0.
  • The criteria for admission are the same for the major and honours programs in Actuarial Science.
  • Decisions may be delayed until all grades for the Spring semester are available.
  • Decisions regarding admission will be communicated by email after the grades from the Spring term are available (likely at the end of April).
  • Some applicants may be asked for an interview.

How to Apply

Step 1: Click here to launch the Actuarial Science application page and then click on the "Start Application to the Actuarial Science Program" button.

Step 2: Fill in all relevant fields on the application webform. Please note:

  • If a field is not relevant for you, either leave it blank or enter "N/A".
  • For courses in progress, enter the year and semester, and enter "IP" (in progress) for the grade.
  • You will be able to save your progress and return to the form if you are unable to complete it all at one time.
  • It is recommended that you prepare your answers to the final two questions in advance and then copy and paste your answers into the webform.

Step 3: On the main page, upload a copy of your SFU advising transcript (available on goSFU). (Please be sure to upload an "advising transcript" rather than an "unofficial transcript".)

Step 4: (Optional) If you have another transcript (i.e. for students who transferred to SFU from another post-secondary institution or for second degree students), please upload it as an Additional Transcript.

Step 5: Once you have filled out the webform to your satisfaction and have uploaded your transcript(s), click on "Finalize" to submit your application.

Application deadline for 2021: Friday, April 9, 2021
