Progress to date

  • All work being done in this area is based on discussions with the GSS at SFU and the Canadian Association of Graduate Studies.
  • Funding a mental health counselor for a 3 year pilot program set up to provide support to grad students across all three campuses, offering both one-on-one sessions and a new thesis support group, which has received positive feedback from participants.
  • Researching alternative supervisory models that are in practice at other universities that could be used to inform SFU’s current supervisory practices. Looking for ways to make it an effective, useful, and enjoyable experience for the grad student and the supervisor.
  • Creating a Graduate Student & Faculty Supervisory Handbook
