Major: Business with a Marketing concentration, after spending a year and a half completing general arts and science courses.
I knew what to major in when: I was inspired by a very passionate and fun first year business instructor at the institution I was studying at. I originally took the business course to use as an elective. I find I learn so much through meeting and talking to different people.
In my free time, I enjoy: jogging around the Sea Wall in Vancouver if it’s not pouring rain, listening to interesting podcasts, watching sci-fi Netflix shows, and spending time with my favorite people.
My biggest struggle in university: I put so much pressure on myself to know exactly what I was doing, and to complete my degree in four years. I believe this pressure and stress kept me from exploring all the options I had available when I was a student. I’ve learned that I’m never going to have it all figured out. We’re all constantly growing and changing.
If I could change one thing about my undergrad career: I wish I got more involved with maybe a co-operative education position, or some kind of volunteer role, or the study abroad program! These experiences usually help you learn about yourself, and help you to grow into a career or path that will be a good fit for you.
My best advice for current students is: Live in the moment, and make decisions that feel right for you at the time. Enjoy where you’re at and make the most of the services available to you as a student. Your post-secondary experience can be a really fun and explorative stage in your life, if you let it be!
