What’s Available at SFU?

The CAL offers a variety of adaptive technologies and equipment for students, including:

  • Speech recognition software (i.e., Dragon Naturally Speaking)
  • Screen reading software (i.e., JAWS for Windows, Zoom Text)
  • Screen magnification software (Zoom Text, MAGic)
  • FM transmitter/receiver system
  • Tape recorders
  • Text to voice assistive technology (i.e. Kurzweil, Read and Write)
  • Braille printer
  • Scanner
  • CCTV (closed circuit television for text enlargement)
  • Large-print dictionary and thesaurus

Assistive Technology BC

Students may also be eligible for a Canada Study Grant for the purchase of adaptive technology through Assistive Technology BC. Assistive Technology BC supports technology assessment, consultation, the provision of assistive technology, training on the use of the technology, repair and trouble shooting, support and tip sheets.
